Sugar skull madness

I’ve been fascinated with Day of the Dead for a while now. The holiday contains such a mix of whimsy, celebration, sadness, and remembrance.  I love the iconic sugar skulls–fun and macabre at the same time! When done right, I’m completely enamored. But as with most things, a little goes a long way. Fortunately, I’m quite picky about them, so things can’t get too out of control. I don’t want to be that sugar skull girl…

I look for an authentic feel (or whatever my conception of authentic is) and a distinct lack of cutesy and goth. More this (below) and less this and this.
